Since January, there has been a rink fundraising committee of the Board working to secure improvements for the Simek Center. We have a long list! One need of urgency is not only replacement skates for use during public skates but due to the growing popularity, a need for more skates of nearly every size. Many of the existing skates are in very poor condition and are well over 10 years old (if not older) and are highly used. We estimate our needs to replace and expand the options of skates to be nearly $14,400. Our committee is working on fundraisers as well as submitting for a number of grants to help in this effort. Our challenge is that the need for skates is now and it’s unlikely we will secure enough funding until, at best, the end of the skating season. So we are seeking some possible interim solutions to get us through the season and are reaching out to you for potential assistance.
Here’s how you can help:
If you have or know of anyone who has extra skates that aren’t being utilized, we are accepting donations of skates to get us through until we can secure new ones. We are in need of all sizes but particularly larger sizes, as the older middle school and high school students are coming to the open skate times and we have had to turn people away because we don’t have skates in their sizes.
We’re so excited that interest in skating and hockey is growing in our community! Thank you so much in advance for any assistance you can offer.
Thanks to all of the High School & Youth players who participated in 2016 Youth Night!!
